Jay Luckey lived in San Francisco, and flew down to San Diego on March 30 for the purpose of seeing Aaron Swanton, best friend and former bandmate, play with his new band the next day.

His parents picked him up at the airport and he got to spend a wonderful, albeit short, amount of time with them before he got in their Blazer and headed south to meet with friends.

Jay left Gavin's house in San Diego very late, at 4 AM Saturday morning, after a typically enjoyable night spent with Gavin and Mike Posladek. Gavin saw him off with "I love you man, later," and Jay responded with "You too, later on." He had the brand-new, unreleased Depeche Mode album in hand, and he was in a great mood.

He called Jeremy Thompson, his best friend and current bandmate, in San Francisco
at about 4:15 AM to talk to him about the new album that he was listening to and to say hello.

Fifteen minutes later, and three blocks from his parents' house, on Shadowridge, he fell asleep and coasted across three lanes of traffic on a downward grade. He struck a tree and was killed instantly, still asleep.

Jay left an absolutely indelible impression in the minds of all who knew him.
He died knowing how luckey he was and he would have no regrets. He is loved dearly and will live on in our hearts and memories and in his music.
